Mental Test

Regarding the new french BSL, dogs have to be mentaly evaluated by a Vet' registered on a prefectoral list. Our dogs passed the Mental Test in May at the Bellevue Veterinary Clinic. The Mental Test have been done in and out the medical practice, with and without me in the area, with other dogs and also with the cat who lives at the clinic. It's about to determine if the dog can have agressive behaviour in usual moments of life.

All our dog successfully passed the Mental Test.  They got the best grade (1).

Cerebellar Ataxia is an autosomal recessive neurological disease. The first signs of the disease usually appear between 3 and 5 years of age in affected dogs. They are: loss of balance, difficulty cornering, and falling when shaking their head. As the signs progress, most dogs seem to have difficulty initiating movements. When they became unable to walk without falling repeatedly, owners usually make the difficult choice to euthanize. The Antagene Cerebellar Ataxia (NCL-A) test detects the mutant, defective gene copy and the normal gene copy. The result of the test is a genotype and allows separation of dogs into three groups: Normal/Clear (homozygous normal), Carrier (heterozygous) and Affected (homozygous mutated).

Our stud dogs are tested before to be breed, affected are removed from our breeding program and we breed carrier with clear only. Our males are available on health tested females only. Our pups from Clear x Carrier litter are tested before to leave our home.
